BookLife Review: Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt
Octopus life, Seattle, aquarium, quirky characters, fresh voice
One of my top favorites so far this year, I loved this one, Remarkably Bright Creatures is an I-read-it-in-one-day kind of book. The characters were compelling, the fact that occasional chapters were narrated by an octopus at an aquarium (you read that right) and the satisfying payoff at the end (no spoilers!) all made for a great book by @shelbyvanpeltwrites, a @readwithjenna pick. The setting and characters were fresh, set in a small town near #Seattle, 70 year old #Tova, struggling Cameron, fiesty and loving Aunt Jean, winning Scotsman and grocer Ethan, the senior ladies knit-wits group, single mom paddle boarder Avery, and of course Marcellus, the octopus escape artist, are a warm ensemble of players and each plays a role in drawing and riveting the reader, and making you care about their wacky little world and the fate of each of them.
