The power of music to trigger memory…
That Song
Now sound and strong,
No more o’erwrought
Your death no longer
rules my thoughts.
Peace arrived some time ago,
slipping in to stay.
It stilled my soul, the balm for which
I had often prayed.
And then I took a forestalled trip
blaring oldies as I drove,
top of voice, with plans equipped,
the future rising with the road.
Lunching at rest stop where
a deejay, ranting as they do,
teed up a memory, stole my air,
that song that conjured all of you.
